Kaleidoscope School of Discovery began as a tutorial service for children experiencing learning challenges. These
challenges may be related to specific learning disabilities, ADHD, reading ability or any number of obstacles that often
stand between a student and academic success.
While there is much diversity among our student population, there are also shared characteristics. For whatever reason,
public school has not fully met the needs of our students. May of our students have been retained once and sometimes
more than once. They have experienced academic failure that has had a negative impact on their self-image and outlook
At Kaleidoscope, we seek to remedy the problems that cause academic failure. Our goal, first and foremost, is to establish
academic success. This is measured less by grade level performance and more by performance based on the student’s
ability. As a student begins to achieve success, their outlook on school changes and their degree of effort will increase.
The pace at which the curriculum is presented is modified to allow students to keep up. Rather than using hours of
homework to keep students caught up, students are provided with after-school tutoring options where most work is
completed that would traditionally be sent home as homework. Students needing additional time to complete classroom
assignments or who need additional help, may use the after-school tutoring as a means to maintain academic success.
Classroom sizes range from 10 students to 15 students in size. Smaller classrooms allow for students to receive more
individualized attention. As a smaller school, we have the opportunity to remain flexible and adapt to meet the needs
of our student population.
